Cruise to New Zealand by Helen Sibritt

Where and how did you go?

This was our trip to New Zealand in 2014 we left Sydney November 21st and returned December 4th

What was your experience?

Fabulous I would recommend cruising to everyone there is so much to do or not to do if you want to take it easy all the cooking and cleaning is done for you beds made bed turned down and the staff on board are to kind considerate and bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable.

Any advice for people wanting to take this journey?

These cruises to New Zealand only depart from Australia between November and March because of the weather and be warned pack lots of warm clothes you will need them

Any dos and don’ts for people doing this for the first time?

Do’s plan your shore tours before you go they can sell out pretty quickly and make sure that you have your medication. Don’t forget your travel insurance seeing a Doctor on board is expensive

Any tips and tricks and you think people should know before embarking on this particular journey?

Plan and think about what you want to see and do but plan to go with the flow and enjoy also check what fancy dress clothes you will need they have special nights like formal wester Island nights pirate nights but you can purchase things on board. Some advice try to book a cabin in the middle of the ship it rocks less there if you are prone to sea sickness ( which I am not) and for me I always book a cabin that has a window I do like to know whether it is day or night.

Tell us about your accommodation?

It is fantastic we had a queen size bed bathroom TV  everything is clean and comfortable there is only one power point in each cabin though but we really only sleep in there too much fun going on

Anything else you want to add?

We have sailed three times now all with P&O and have had a fantastic time the food is fabulous so much of it be prepared to gain weight remeber really the only things you will need to buy is your drinks food and activities are all included and fingers crossed we will be off on another cruise next year.

This was amazing sailing through the Fjordland Milford Sound, Dusky Sound and there was another and I can’t remember the name but it was magical but so so cold.

This sounds fantastic. I think it is wonderful to do something like that where you get to see a area perhaps that you have never done before. Since I am in the states the closest thing I have even done is a cruise up and down a body of water to relax, eat, see things and such but nothing like what you did. That is on a much wider scale. Hope you can continue to do things like that.

    Have fun,
    Cheri

This sounds like a fantastic trip. We’ve never been on a cruise, but many of our friends have, and they all tell us we’d love it. We almost went some years back to celebrate one of our anniversaries, (35th or 40th, I think…) but we backed out when the company called us to ask what time we wanted eat dinner on the ship. We were afraid the trip was going to be much too regimented for us, but I think perhaps we were wrong. Maybe some day…

      Hi Susan

The first cruise we went on had set times for the passengers for dinner but that doesn’t happen anymore most have sit down restaurants and buffets and the food is awesome πŸ™‚

I hope you get to go on one one day they really are lots of fun

New Zealand and Australia are places I’d definitely like to visit. While I’m in Australia, I’d like to see a performance at the Sydney Opera House and hold a koala bear. Did your cruise allow you time to do those things if you wanted?

      Hi Sherry

Yes they do at each port there is a huge range of activities and sites to explore while the ship is docked pretty much all day at each port πŸ™‚
